Ivan Gill left Honolulu to attend college on the mainland, which reduced the need for his parents to move.  He moved to New Orleans first in 1988 after completing his doctoral degree in Geology at Louisiana State University on an Alumni Federation Fellowship.   He has spent more than 14 years teaching at Tulane, University of New Orleans and the University of Puerto Rico; and the last 6 years teaching high school science in the New Orleans Public Schools.   He maintains his interest in coral reefs, paleoclimate, geochemistry and sedimentology, and has further interests in science teaching, teacher training and public education.
