<empty>Dr. Andre Perry is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education at the University of New Orleans, Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, and CEO of the UNO Charter Schools.
<empty>In the spring of 2003, Dr. Perry received his doctorate from the University of Maryland - College Park. His primary research interest revolves around immigrant educational rights and migrant education. His most recent work broadly approaches the question, "Should undocumented immigrants receive financial aid?" Dr. Perry also examines the retention of people of color in postsecondary institutions.
<empty>Dr. Perry provides weekly political breakdowns of K-16 leadership and governance in Louisiana. He does this in his Louisiana Weekly newspaper column titled, “In Analysis.” A condensed version of his article can be heard on every Friday afternoon on WWNO 89.9 during NPR’s All Things Considered.
<empty>In addition to his writing and scholarship, Dr. Perry coordinates the Student Leadership Institute for the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Migrant Education Program. The college exposure summer camp, which is held on the campus of Penn State University, encourages academic achievement, civic engagement, and postsecondary retention among the children of migrant workers. He just accepted invitations to join boards for the Greater New Orleans Fair Action Housing Center, Urban League of Greater New Orleans, and 89.9 WWNO Public Radio.<empty>
