 Dr. Zarus E. P. Watson is an Associate Professor of Counselor Education in the University of New Orleans' College of Education & Human Development. He holds a B.A. from Tulane College of Tulane University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans' Graduate School. Dr. Watson conducts ongoing research (presentational, seminar, book chapter and journal publications) in the areas of social systems theory (including conditioning/messaging models of communication, perception, and cultural identity development), organizational counseling and consultation/evaluation modeling.
Dr. Watson is also the Research Director of the UNO Research Center for Multiculturalism & Counseling and has been principal or co-principal investigator on projects conducted within or in conjunction with the Capital One-University of New Orleans Charter School System, Ochsner Health Systems (Dept of Child Psychiatry), the Orleans, Jefferson and St. Charles Parish Public School Systems (including an African American adolescent male focus group initiative), the National Finance Center's Dept. of Workforce Services of the United States Department of Agriculture (mediation training), the Institute of Mental Hygiene, the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (N.O.), the Baptist Community Ministries, the City of New Orleans, and other non-profit/faith-based institutions. He is Past-President of the Louisiana Association of Multicultural Counseling & Development and is a member of Chi Sigma Iota and Phi Delta Kappa honor societies, the American Counseling Association and the Mid-South Educational Research Association.
