EDCI Mission Statement and Programs

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction prepares students for teaching and related careers at the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels; provides master's and doctoral degrees in a broad variety of curricular areas; partners with and improves schools in the Greater New Orleans area; and generates and disseminates applied, basic, and sponsored research concerning teaching and learning. The Department is unique in the New Orleans area in that it provides the full range of initial and advanced programs related to the preparation of teachers and related personnel, and conducts research into a spectrum of areas of modern curricular practices and innovations.

The department's programs are designed to develop an understanding of the major roles of teachers in culturally diverse, urban educational settingsthat are informed by the interaction of theory and practice . Courses of study, partnerships with various agencies and funded projects provide students in curriculum and instruction with access to the most recent innovations in educational research, assessment, and technology.
